Contact patch size does not change with wider tires, just the contact shape. Wider tires exchange straight line grip for lateral grip or the contact patch shape goes from being longer and narrower to short and wide. Maybe more power down in a corner but def not in a straight line. The myth comes from the fact that wider tires are usually a better/stickier tire. But tire for tire the slightly narrower tire will grip better in a straight line. No one ever puts on wider tires in the front to help braking, so why would a wider tire in the rear help acceleration? Ken 91tt
